Teacher Training Courses and Assessing

  • BTEC Level 3 Award in Education and Training (QCF)

The Pearson BTEC Level 3 Award in Education and Training (QCF) is an introductory teaching qualification. Achieving this Award will provide sufficient evidence that the learner has acquired the necessary skills and knowledge to prepare, plan, deliver and evaluate basic teaching and learning sessions, in a variety of teaching or training contexts. This introductory, knowledge-based teaching qualification has no minimum teaching practice requirement. Therefore, it may be undertaken by individuals who are not in a teaching role. However, there is a minimum requirement to take part in micro–teaching. It can meet the needs of a range of trainee teachers, including:

    • Individuals not currently teaching or training
    • Individuals currently teaching and training, including those who have just begun or are about to begin
    • Individuals currently working as assessors who wish to achieve a qualification providing an introduction to teaching.

It gives learners the opportunity to:

    • Develop knowledge related to teaching and learning
    • Develop skills in teaching and learning
    • Achieve a nationally-recognised Level 3 qualification
    • Develop their own personal growth and engagement in teaching and learning.
    • BTEC Level 3 Award in the Delivery of Conflict Management Training (QCF)

This qualification is for people who wish to teach conflict management skills. It is aimed at tutors who have already completed some generic training qualification, such as Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector, and who now require a more specialist qualification, for example to teach conflict management skills. For trainers delivering licence-linked qualifications in the private security industry, it meets the requirements laid down by the Security Industry Authority. For example you will be able to teach conflict management skills to door supervisors, security guards or other customer facing roles. It is also relevant to trainers working in other areas where there is direct contact with customers, service users or the general public.
      • BTEC Level 3 Award for Deliverers of Physical Intervention Training in the Private Security Industry (QCF))

The Pearson BTEC Level 3 Award for Deliverers of Physical Intervention Training in the Private Security Industry (QCF) is for learners who work in, or who want to work in the private security industry as a deliverer of physical intervention skills. It gives learners the opportunity to:

        • Develop knowledge related to physical intervention, specifically the legal and professional implications of their use
        • Develop an understanding of how to reduce the risk of harm, when physical intervention skills are used
        • Understand good practices to follow after physical interventions
        • Learn about the use of non-aggressive physical skills to protect themselves and others from assault
        • Be able to use non-pain compliant standing holding and escorting techniques, including non-restrictive and restrictive skills
        • Achieve a nationally-recognised Level 3 qualification
        • Achieve a licence to practice
        • Develop their own personal growth and engagement in learning.
        • Edexcel Level 3 Awards and Certificate in Assessing the Quality of Assessment (QCF)

This qualification is particularly suitable for the following groups of learners:

          • The Edexcel Level 3 Award in Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment (QCF): for those who wish to gain an understanding of the principles and practices of assessment without any requirement to practice as assessors.
          • The Edexcel Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment (QCF): for assessors who assess occupational competence in an individual’s work environment.
          • The Edexcel Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement (QCF): for those who assess vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in environments other than the work environment (e.g. a workshop, classroom or other training environment).
          • The Edexcel Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (QCF): for those who assess both occupational competence in the work environment and vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in environments other than the workplace (e.g. a workshop, classroom or other training environment).

These qualifications are for learners aged 19 and above who are capable of reaching the required standards in a learning and development delivery or assessment context.

These qualifications replace the A1 and A2 qualifications. They are part of the new suite of qualifications for assessors, internal quality assurers (IQA) and external quality assurers (EQA). This specification includes the qualifications for assessors. They were needed to meet the emerging needs of the developing qualification frameworks and to reflect changes in the practice of assessment.

These qualifications will be required for:

          • Any assessors and verifiers involved in National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) for the next three years. Those who deliver these qualifications will need to be qualified to meet the requirements of the NVQ Code of Practice and Sector Skills Councils assessment strategies.
          • Assessors and quality assurance staff who deliver QCF qualifications that use the term ‘NVQ’ in their title
          • Depending on the assessment strategies set by individual Sector Skills Councils, some staff, who are assessing and quality assuring qualifications within the QCF that do not use the term ‘NVQ’ in their titles, but whose purpose is to confirm occupational competence, will need to hold IQA or EQA qualifications.

These qualifications would be helpful for teachers in schools who deliver vocational qualifications with applied learning, such as BTEC Firsts and Nationals. Ofqual has confirmed that practitioners who hold the A, V or D units will not have to prequalify, but must be aware of and operate in accordance with the relevant new qualification.

          • Edexcel Level 4 Awards and Certificates in Assuring the Quality of Assessment (QCF)

This qualification is particularly suitable for the following groups of learners:

            • The Edexcel Level 4 Award in Understanding the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice (QCF): for those who want to know about internal quality assurance, for example managers or those new to quality assurance and verification.
            • The Edexcel Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice (QCF): for those who internally quality assures assessors and assessment, but who do not manage the centre or other internal quality assures.
            • The Edexcel Level 4 Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice (QCF): for those who have wider quality assurance responsibilities and manage others, develop policies or manage External Quality Assurance (EQA) visits. This is a qualification for Lead Internal Quality Assurers.
            • The Edexcel Level 4 Award in Understanding the External Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice (QCF): for those who want to know about external quality assurance but who do not actually do it, for example managers or internal verifiers.
            • The Edexcel Level 4 Award in the External Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice (QCF): for those who externally quality assure centres.
            • The Edexcel Level 4 Certificate in Leading the External Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice (QCF): for those who have wider responsibilities and manage other external quality assurers across more than one centre.

These qualifications are for learners aged 19 and above who are capable of reaching the required standards in a learning and development delivery or assessment context.

These qualifications replace the V1 and V2 qualifications. They are part of the new suite of qualifications for assessors, internal quality assurers (IQA) and external quality assurers (EQA)
